“Because no one takes a picture of the back of the car…”
Thirty-eight years of grille-building experience, started with one car and a lot of stubbornness.
It started back in 1988, when my father needed a grille insert for his 1933 Ford Victoria. He couldn’t find what he wanted, so he built his own. Then a friend needed one. Then another friend. Word got around, and what started as a favor turned into a business.
In 1998, my father retired and I bought Alumicraft from him. Since then, we’ve grown into a full lineup of grille inserts for street rods, muscle cars, and classic trucks — sold direct to customers and through a dealer network around the world.
In 2010, we bought our first HAAS CNC mill. It changed everything. We started machining our own build fixtures so the spacing between bars is exact, every single time — no more relying on hand-built jigs. As demand grew for custom grilles on muscle cars and classic trucks, it only made sense to bring that same precision to those lines too. We’re up to three CNC mills now, and the standard hasn’t changed: every grille should look like it was built specifically for that car, not pulled off a shelf. Because when you’ve put real money into your suspension, your driveline, your interior — why put the factory plastic grille back on?
We’re also proud to sponsor the Pro’s Pick of the Year at the NSRA Street Rod Nationals — one of the largest street rod events in the country. Every year, we machine the award pieces ourselves and hand-pick winning builds alongside the NSRA judges. Customer cars we’ve worked on have gone on to win at SEMA too, which says more about the builders than it does about us — but we’ll take the compliment.
